“I know what it's like to have the website be the thing nobody has time for. That's the whole reason I want to hear about yours.” Elijah Desent · Westview Baptist Church

Twenty minutes, and $20 for your time.

Start with how to reach you. Three short pages after this — about a minute.

No obligation either way. One $20 per church, sent right after we talk.

What I build

This is what I do all day.

So you know who's calling: I build church websites a pastor can change by texting them. Here's a real edit going from a message to a live site — about thirty seconds, start to finish. Your twenty minutes is what tells me what to build next.

What we'll talk about

Five questions, then a look at what I'd build.

No slides and no homework. Here's exactly what I'm going to ask you, so you can decide right now whether it's worth twenty minutes.

What's working on your website right now?
The part you'd keep if I rebuilt everything else. Almost every site has one.
What isn't working — what would you change today if you could?
The event page nobody updates, the giving link that broke, the photos from 2014.
Is it bringing anybody into the church?
Has a visitor ever told you they found you online? That's the number that matters.
When something needs changing, can you do it yourself?
Or does it wait on a volunteer, a company, or a password nobody remembers?
If the website did one thing for your ministry, what would you want it to be?
This is the answer I'm really after.

Then, with whatever time is left, I'll show you a demo of what I'd build for your church. If you like it, we can talk about moving forward. If you don't, keep the $20 and we part friends — no harm, no foul.

Why I'm asking

I'd rather hear it from a pastor than guess.

I pastor a church in Warren, Michigan. I also design and host church websites — dozens of them now, for pastors in a couple dozen states and a few other countries.

Every good decision I've made about that work came from a pastor telling me something plainly. That the events page was a lie. That nobody could find the giving link on a phone. That the company they were paying took three weeks to change a service time. I didn't figure any of that out on my own.

So I'm buying twenty minutes at a time. You get $20 and, I hope, a useful conversation about your own site. I get the one thing I can't build without — the truth from somebody standing where you're standing.

Pastors I've talked with

Conversations like this are where every one of these started.

He's easy to work with and he really listened. He took our old site, built something fresh, and made it happen in a timely fashion. The look is clean and clear and says exactly who we are.
Pastor JustinKnotty Oak Baptist Church · Coventry, RI
We had a new visitor this past Sunday — only one week after our new website went live — and when I asked him what brought him to our church, he said it was our new website.
Pastor Mark
What once took hours of work, technical knowledge, and often outside assistance can now be accomplished in just minutes. It allows us to focus more of our resources on ministry.

Common questions

The questions I'd ask too.

Is this a sales call?
It's a soft one, and I'd rather say so than pretend otherwise. Most of the twenty minutes is me asking about your website and listening. Then I'll show you a demo of what I'd build for your church. Like it and we can talk about moving forward; don't and you keep the $20 and we part friends. No harm, no foul.
How do I actually get the $20?
Amazon gift card, Venmo, or Zelle — you pick on the form. It goes out right after we hang up, usually within the hour and same day at the latest. One per church.
How do we pick a time?
You mark the days of the week that work for you — any day, Sunday included — and one three-hour window inside business hours. I'll pick an exact time inside what you marked and text you to confirm. If it doesn't work, tell me and I'll move it.
What if we're happy with our website?
Then that's exactly the conversation I want. I learn as much from what's working as from what isn't, and the $20 is the same either way.
Do I need to be technical?
Not at all. I'm not going to ask you about hosting or plugins. I'll ask what's working, what isn't, whether the site is bringing anybody in, and whether you can edit it without calling somebody.
How long does it really take?
Twenty minutes. I keep a clock on it. If we're both enjoying it and you have more time, great — but I'll never hold you past twenty.
Who are you?
Elijah Desent — I pastor Westview Baptist Church in Warren, Michigan, and I design and host websites for churches around the country. Same job you have, plus the web work.
